From Dirt to Design: How a Love for Dahlias Rooted

From Dirt to Design: How a Love for Dahlias Rooted

They say that gardeners are just people who have learned to wait. For me, that lesson began with a single dahlia tuber.

I still remember the first time I saw a dahlia in full bloom—the perfect, hypnotic geometry of the petals and colors so vibrant they almost didn't look real. I fell in love with the process of tucking something that looked like a shriveled sweet potato into the dirt and watching it transform into a showstopper.

But as my garden began to overflow, the joy changed. It wasn’t just about the growing anymore; it was about the sharing.

The Evolution of a Bouquet

It started with a few stems cut for the kitchen table. Then, it was "hand-me-down" bouquets for neighbors and friends. I realized that while a dahlia is beautiful in the garden, it becomes something much more powerful when it’s placed in a vase and handed to someone who needs a smile.

That transition—from the quiet work of gardening to the social joy of bouquet-making—is the heartbeat of it all.

Bringing the Garden to You: Blooming Patches Flowers

I wanted to bring that feeling to the local Glenville, NY and Capital Region, NY community. That’s why we created our Florist Shop/Bloom Bar. I didn't want a shop where flowers were hidden away; I wanted a place where you could experience the same tactile joy I found in my garden.

When you visit us, you aren't just buying a product. You’re participating in the same cycle I fell in love with years ago:

The Selection: Choosing the stems that speak to you.

The Vessel: Pairing them with a bud vase that feels just right.

The Connection: Taking that beauty out into the world to share with someone else.

Why We Do What We Do

Whether it’s a dinner party, a "get well" wish, or a "treat yourself" Tuesday, flowers have a way of saying what we can’t quite put into words. My garden taught me that beauty is meant to be shared, and I’m so honored to be sharing a piece of that with you now.

We’re a new shop, but our roots go deep. I can't wait to see what you create at the bloom bar.
